Securing Your Motorcycle

Being the victim of motorcycle theft is probably most people’s worst nightmare. Simply staring at the empty spot where it was parked could give you a sick feeling of despair. Of course, you would not want this to happen to you. Thus, you have to think of effective ways to make sure your vehicle is secure wherever you leave it.

Since professional thieves would always find a way to get your bike, you have to think two steps ahead of them. While you could always use manual locks, there are more effective consumer electronic devices nowadays that can take care of your security concerns.

Having an alarm and a lock at the same time could definitely give a thief a hard time, especially if it is hidden. Since the alarm could go off when the chains are cut or the locks are removed, this attempt is likely to be frustrated. However, if you would not be able to hear it since you are in the office, away from the parking area, or because no one pays attention to the screaming motorcycle, the solution is to get an alarm that notifies you through a pager or a mobile phone.

Another way to secure your bike would be to disable it to prevent anyone from riding away with it. You can do this by taking out the main fuse and keeping it in your pocket wherever you go. There are also owners who install hidden kill switches that turn the ignition on and off. Also, if you have fuel injection, you could have a switch that cuts power off to the fuel pump , which would prevent the engine from starting.
